* Dr Matthew Barac: Matthew Barac is an architect at London firm PTEarchitects, specializing in social housing. His doctoral research, about the role of architecture in shantytowns, won the RIBA President’s Award for Research (2007) and, with David Southwood and Simone le Fevre, the International Bauhaus Prize (2004). He enjoys teaching and writing about architecture, and recently guest-edited an Architectural Review special issue on South Africa. He chairs the board of trustees for humanitarian development charity Architecture Sans Frontières – UK.
